Create & manage Clips - Android (2024)

You can clip a small portion of a video or live stream and share it with others. Clips are public and can be watched by anyone with access to the clip who can also watch the original video. You can find clips you made and clips made on your videos in the Your Clips library page.

Note: Clipping videos is turned on by default.Learn how toturn it off.

YouTube Clips

Create and share a clip

  1. Open the YouTube app Create & manage Clips - Android (1).
  2. Go to a video you want to clip.
  3. Below the Subscribe button, slide the options to the right, tap Clip Create & manage Clips - Android (2).
  4. Select the section of the video you’d like to clip by dragging the slider. You can increase or decrease the length of your selection to a maximum of 60 seconds or minimum of 5 seconds.
  5. Tap Share clip.
  6. Choose an option for sharing the clip:
    • Social networks: You can share your Clip to a social network like Facebook or Twitter.
    • Copy the link: You can copy a link to your Clip to paste somewhere else.
    • Email: You can share your Clip using the default email software on your mobile device.

Note: You can find clips you made and clips that viewers made from your content in the Clips library. You can find this in the You tab on the Main app Create & manage Clips - Android (3) Your Clips Create & manage Clips - Android (4).

Manage clips of your videos

  1. Open the YouTube Studio app Create & manage Clips - Android (5).
  2. At the bottom, tap Content Create & manage Clips - Android (6).
  3. At the top, tap Filter Create & manage Clips - Android (7).
  4. Under "Clips" select Video contains clips Create & manage Clips - Android (8) Apply.
  5. Tap a video to see its Clips.
  6. Select View More under "Latest clips".
  7. On the clip you want to manage, tap More Create & manage Clips - Android (9).
  8. Depending on the action you’d like to take, tap Share clip Create & manage Clips - Android (10), Play clip Create & manage Clips - Android (11), Hide user from channel Create & manage Clips - Android (12), or Report clip Create & manage Clips - Android (13).

Delete a clip you created

On the YouTube app

  1. Open the YouTube app Create & manage Clips - Android (14) .
  2. Tap your profile picture Create & manage Clips - Android (15).
  3. Scroll down and tap Your clips Create & manage Clips - Android (16).
  4. On the clip you want to delete, tap More Create & manage Clips - Android (17).
  5. Tap Delete clip Create & manage Clips - Android (18) Create & manage Clips - Android (19) Delete forever.

On the YouTube Studio app

  1. Open YouTube Studio Create & manage Clips - Android (20) .
  2. At the bottom, tap Content Create & manage Clips - Android (21) .
  3. At the top, tap Filter Create & manage Clips - Android (22) .
  4. Under "Clips" select Video contains clips Create & manage Clips - Android (23) Apply.
  5. Tap a video to see its Clips.
  6. Select View More under "Latest clips".
  7. Beside the clip you want to manage, tap More Create & manage Clips - Android (24) .
  8. Tap Delete Clip Create & manage Clips - Android (25) Create & manage Clips - Android (26) Delete forever.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I don't see how to create Clips on YouTube.

To make clips from a video or live stream on YouTube, you must:

  • Be signed in.
  • Create a Clip from an eligible and opted-in channel.

Clips can’t be made from:

  • Videos shorter than 2 minutes
  • Videos made for kids
  • Live streams without DVR
  • Live streams over 8 hours long
  • Premieres while they’re still live
  • Videos made from news channels
  • Videos from channels that turned off Clip creation on their content

Who can see the clips I created?

Clips are public and can be watched and shared by anyone with access to the Clip who can also watch the original video. Creators can watch and share all Clips made from their videos in their Library page on the main YouTube app and in YouTube Studio. Clips can also be seen on select search, discovery, and analytics surfaces available to viewers and creators on YouTube.

Why are the clips I created no longer available?

Clips of a particular video will be removed if:

  • The original video is deleted or set to private.
  • The original video violates our Community Guidelines.

Note: Clips made from unlisted videos remain available.

I created a clip from a live stream that's not working.

Clips will show up after the live stream has finished and is uploaded as a video. You can’t create Clips from live streams without DVR or live streams longer than the DVR timeframe. Learn how to turn on DVR on live streams.

If a live stream lasts longer than the DVR timeframe, any clips that fall outside the DVR timeframe will not be playable until the live stream ends, and the original video is posted.

Can I create Shorts from Clips?

Yes, you can remix a clip if the clip's source video is eligible for remix. All remix tools available to you on a video are also available to any clip of that video.

Creators who own the clip's source video can convert the entire clip into a Short.

How can I view my clips performance?

You can view the number of clips made from your video, the number of views for each clip, who made it, and other details underClips Create & manage Clips - Android (27)on YouTube Studio.
